I had an amazing opportunity today to attend a women’s rights/women’s voting informational panel that included Natalie Portman today. I am passionate about politics however I am not completely informed about all of today’s issues. I learned SO much by listening to all of the speakers, and was surprised with how informed and passionate Natalie is about Obama. It’s scary how different women’s rights could change with this vote coming up in November. If Mitt Romney is elected, everything that Obama has worked for and all of the progress we have made in the last 4 years will be lost. PLEASE vote for your rights!

Vote for your rights.

How Barack Obama Made His Fortune
I’m tired of talking about the horrors of Mitt Romney.  Let’s talk about a dude who made his money honestly (which we know because he’s released his tax returns for all to see).  How did he get rich?  By writing books and investing wisely.  And then when he decided owning a million or two was enough (Romney is worth over $200 million for comparison), gave all of his Nobel Peace Prize money to charity.
All.  Of.  It.  Which if he hadn’t, it would have approximately doubled his worth.  So basically he gave away half of what he owned to charity that day.
So when this guy says he’s trying to help the lower and middle classes, whether or not I think his ideas will work, at least I know he really believes in what he says he does.

you’re a nice president

Paul Ryan posts online Q&A, gets 200 views and one question. Campaign declares it a great success.

Lonely Mitt and and Lonely Paul

So earlier today, Paul Ryan decides to give the online Q&A thing a shot and LOL:

Late Monday morning, he posted a thread on question-and-answer site Quora that, at least at first, largely flew under Internet users’ respective radars. […] Ryan’s Quora thread failed to immediately gain the traction and popularity of Obama’s recent Reddit appearance, which saw 865,092 unique visitors in the first hour, up from 518,312 on Reddit prior to Obama’s interview. Nearly an hour after Ryan’s Quora thread was posted, it was seen by less than 200 people and had only one comment — a user’s fact-check on Ryan’s arguments that has since been downvoted.

Let’s say that Obama’s Reddit audience was just 347,000 in the first hour. That’s a conservative estimate that assumes only Reddit’s incremental traffic viewed the Obama thread, but it’s still nearly two thousand times larger than Ryan’s audience. And that was just in the first hour!

Obviously, part of the problem here is that Ryanland decided to use Quora when they could have used Reddit. But the reason why they didn’t use Reddit is obvious: They don’t actually want to answer questions, because most of the questions they get are about their campaign lies. In fact, the only question Ryan got in his first hour was about exactly that. And since then, more comments have been posted to the thread but almost all the ones that were either critical of Ryan or asked him to document his claims were hidden. And Romneyland won’t be responding to them either:

A source close to the Romney-Ryan campaign told Mashable that it was “unclear” if Ryan would be responding to comments left on his Quora thread, but the source added that the campaign is hoping to continue to expand their usage of Quora over time.

So … Romneyland puts Paul Ryan up for an online Q&A that almost nobody sees, and decides that they probably won’t answer the one question that he got because they didn’t like it, nor will they necessarily answer any questions in the future because not enough people were ready to buy their bogus political arguments.

But they claim that they are planning to continue doing even more of these sorts of events. Brilliant, eh? And yet they wonder why nobody who is paying any attention takes them seriously.

oh my god I thought the last one was a JOKE, jfc

THE LAST ONE IS NOT A JOKE. REPEAT THE LAST ONE IS NOT A JOKE. PLEASE DEAR GOD STOP ROMNEY FROM BEING PRESIDENT.

Yeah, just to clarify: no part of #9 is a joke. All those things sound like gross exaggerations that would be unfair, horrible things to say about a person were they not true. Unfortunately, every single one of them is.

Actually, I’d like to clarify something about #9.

The man who was assaulted was attacked by Mitt and a few of Mitt’s friends, yes, but he was not gay. That’s what makes it worse. He was NOT gay, but Mitt and his friends suspected he was gay simply because he came to school with what can only be described as an 80s-appropriate hairstyle. Because his bangs were longer than the hair at the back of his head, they decided it was a clear indication that he was a homosexual and they sought to “fix” that by forcibly cutting his hair. The man, however, was not gay and due to the bullying he received from Mitt, Mitt’s friends, and several people in the aftermath of what Mitt and his friends did, the man committed suicide.

I would also like to note that this occurred while Mitt Romney was in college.

It wasn’t elementary school, when you could at least blame parents and school faculty for not intervening. It wasn’t even during high school, when you’re expected to be completely immature and there’s still enough accountability to assign to parents and teachers that chose not to intervene. It was during college. They were all adults and they behaved that way toward someone they suspected could be gay because of their chosen style of hair.

When Mitt was confronted with the fact that the man went on to kill himself as a result of having no self-esteem or self-worth after having been so cruelly taunted, bullied, and assaulted, he brushed the subject off and said, “kids will be kids.” Except you weren’t a child, you weren’t even a teenager. You were an adult and you went unpunished for your criminal assault of another human being, and that person is now dead because of the things you and your friends drilled into his head. Negative infinity points for Romney.

I am not yet old enough to vote but please please please if you are 18, register and vote. It does matter. I sound like those MTV campaigns but I don’t care. VOTE. No really, seriously. V O T E.

WTF it is true:   http://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/mitt-romneys-prep-school-classmates-recall-pranks-but-also-troubling-incidents/2012/05/10/gIQA3WOKFU_story.html?hpid=z2

Hmmm. I’m pretty sure Michael Jordan is best known for something else…
[Update: Yes. Yes it’s real.]

Wtf is wrong with fox

WHAT the hell????? And I wasn’t aware Carmelo Anthony was an anti-police activist as well. Huh.

OK so obviously this is offensive on many levels. But the worst thing, to me, as a Chicagoan who lived in Chicago when the Greatest Basketball Team In The History Of Ever was repeating the threepeat, MICHAEL JORDAN IS NOT A FAILED BASEBALL PLAYER! And I wasn’t familiar with Carmelo Anthony, but according to Wikipedia, he’s also an NBA player who’s won MVP, Most Outstanding Player, and a bronze medal in the god damn Olympics.
And yeah. Being the president. Of the United States of America. Is pretty interesting. I would love to know what event Fox News went to where the POTUS was the seventh-most-interesting person in the room. And he’s humble about it! He said he only ranks in the top 5 or 6 when he goes places! He’s the president!
Aaaand love the use of “glad-handed” as a verb. Hey, how did they describe Mittens’ many many fundraisers? Let’s see:
“Soon-to-be Republican nominee Mitt Romney is now pummeling Obama when it comes to fundraising.”
“Romney is raking it in from big donors and from grass-roots activists online, giving him three consecutive months of taking in more than $100 million.”
Yeahhhhhhh thought so guys.

He did try to be a baseball player. And failed. So, not untrue.

Yep, followed FOX Nation’s follow-through link, and it’s still/definitely true. One: how can you even look at MJ and think his most notable aspect is his failed baseball career when…no, I can’t, this is just asinine.
Two: how exactly does this equate to the President being “egotistical”? He’s the fucking President. God forbid he note the fact that, wow, he’s usually seen as important? And he’s openly admitting that this wasn’t even the point?
GOP, you are grasping at straws.
